The Terminal’s New Face Promise

Dear Diary,

I went to watch the preview of The Terminal (courtesy of M1) today with a fellow Indonesian friend of mine.

Despite getting a seat which was the second from the front of a gigantic screen (which meant that the screen looked distorted from where we were, not to mention the strain on the neck when watching) we enjoyed the movie because it was simply hilarious! Not much can be said here without spoiling the movie (I don’t think a lot of people would have watched the preview). I liked the way Tom Hanks used a Russian accent as he played as Viktor Navorski, a refugee from an Eastern European country.

Plotwise I think that the movie is quite weak. There was nothing too dramatic in the movie. Basically it was just a story of a guy waiting in an airport for his country to be recognised by the United States just so that he can either return home or enter the United States. Ok, so this was peppered by some romantic scenes and several other attempts to depict a person being stuck in an airport, and the attempts by the airport authority to get rid of him. Yes they’re funny, but they don’t really carry a lot of weight in the story.

I read that the filming was done in a hangar instead of the actual airport terminal. I’d say that Steven Spielberg has done a good job replicating the actual airport terminal, complete with a working schedule board, fast food chains like Burger King and retail outlets like Hugo Boss and airplanes outside the building. Being an aviation enthusiast, those were extra points for the movie.

Overall, I’d say that The Terminal is a good movie. Despite lacking a solid plot and a couple of impossible scenes, the movie is really funny, and is a good refresher.

Rating: 7.5/10

Now what about The Terminal’s New Face I talked about in the topic? Well, nothing actually. Just wanted to make a remark about how interesting it is to see a person in school, and then suddenly next year finding her becoming a contestant in The New Paper’s New Face 2004. :P
So what promise am I talking about then? Well, I just remembered that I still owe some people lunch. If you can’t remember, check out this post. So… Do you still want to go for lunch? :D Do contact me to confirm. ;)
Oh yeah, I got called by this advertising agency on Monday telling me that I won some lucky draw from one of the shopping centres in Singapore. I was supposed to win a designer watch, and (if I caught this correctly) some trip to Thailand. The funny thing was that when I asked what was the name put on the lucky draw, the caller told me there was none. (I doubt there would be my IC number either) I mean, hey, as far as I know, I always put my name and IC in lucky draws! Otherwise, how can the organiser verify it was really me who won the prize? I suspect it’s just some company trying to advertise by calling random numbers… Sounds really fishy. She promised to call again on Saturday. I’ll keep you updated.

Fishy,
