The Sambal

I was checking out Keropokman’s sambal food post when curiousity got me clicking on the Wikipedia entry on sambal. Another click later, and I found out that there is actually a Filipino ethnic group called Sambal, who speak one of the–unsurprisingly–Sambalic languages.

The Sambal are the original Austronesian inhabitants of the province of Zambales and the city of Olongapo in the Philippines. They speak Tina, Bolinao, or Botolan, all of which are Sambalic languages.

Unfortunately, the similarity is only in the name, and this ethnic group has nothing to do with the food that we eat in Singapore.
