Global Enterprise Computers

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Spent the morning discussing with HR, and after filling forms after forms after forms, I am now officially an employee of Global Enterprise Computers, Inc (from now on called GEC). My first salary is… somewhere between $1000 and $5000, which is quite alright, I think, although all my friends are telling me it’s too low.

My first day of work will be on 23 June, so I may be going home for about a week next week. I’ll also have to apply for permanent residence soon.

Thereafter I hope it’s going to be an exciting, new journey. :)

All Looks Well

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

All looks well at the moment.

After the seemingly-horrendous phone interview last night, I was still offered the job. Was it luck? Or is someone up there really looking after me? I don’t know.

Anyhow, I have decided to take up the offer. The company has many divisions and so I think there will be plenty of opportunity to develop myself. In any case, my family is not exactly in a good financial situation right now and so the fact that I can start working pretty soon (by the end of the month) is more than welcome. I will now be waiting for the invitation from HR to discuss the compensation and sign the letter of appointment.

Meanwhile I wonder if I should cancel all my three other interviews tomorrow, so that other people can get a chance at the jobs. They are going to be walk-in interviews held in campus anyway, so it will not be as if I am wasting their resources by not going for the interviews.

All looks well at the moment. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. :)

Post Phone Interview

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Phew, I was just done with the phone interview with the US side of the company. I was a nervous wreck.

It was pretty bad… I kept on stammering on my words, but I did try my best to try to elaborate more on my experience. Bad thing is that I only recited what I already have from the resume. Again…

Well, let’s hope that all will be well. :)

Two More Hours…

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

… until my phone interview, that is.

And I’m damn nervous.

The interview will be on my technical knowledge (god knows what is going to be asked), and the interviewer will be located halfway around the world in the US.

I just hope that they can understand my accent at least.

Remind me not to use Singlish during the interview.

“Only Happy People Will Be Considered.”

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

As it’s time for me to go on to the next phase in life after school, I went to sign up for campus interviews. It’s just one of the events provided by the Career & Attachment Office to help graduates in securing their first job.

As I was going through the list of companies to consider, one of them caught my attention. Have a look at their requirements:

happy

“Only happy people will be considered.”

Oh dear, is the IT industry that bad that many people who go into it are unhappy?

In any case, I think I’ll try to apply to this company. Not only because of that statement they use, but also because the job scope seems interesting.

Have a good job-hunting to those who just graduated! :)
