A Better Title

Hp asked me in a recent blog comment what bcc stood for. That made me think. In this blog alone, I already have three different names which I go by. In the title bar I am known as “The Humming Bird”. After every post and comments I always sign off with “bcc”. Yet my Stuff bar says that this blog was designed by a “Hendri Budi”.

So how come I have so many names? Who exactly am I? In this entry, I shall shed some light to how each name came out, as well as some nicknames that I used to go by and bet none of you might have known.

• Hendri Budi

  This is my real name. Not much can be told about this name. It is an Indonesian name. Hendri is probably a localised version of Henry, while Budi is the family name which means ‘good deed’. My parents gave me that name.

• bcc

  bcc stands for my Chinese name. Yes, I’m a Chinese Indonesian; not many seem to know this, not even my own classmates. Most somehow thought I was a Vietnamese. Anyway, thanks to hp for confirming the dialect I belong to is ‘Hakka’, also known as ‘Khek’. So in that dialect, my Chinese name is (something like) Boon Chen Chong. In Chinese it’s 温振昌 (hey, I can type my Chinese name, but I can’t write it properly with the correct strokes!) or Wen Zhen Chang. I hope I didn’t spell that wrongly.

• The Humming Bird

  Back last year, I thought of developing a whole personal website, complete with sections like Photo Album, Diary, Reviews, Projects, etc. with proprietary PHP codes of mine. The whole website was to be called “The Humming Bird Project”, with sections called “The Humming Bird’s Gallery”, “The Humming Bird’s Reviews”, etc. I chose the name “Humming Bird” because it abbreviates to my initials.

  As with all my other projects like the automated photo gallery, MOB (acronym for My Online Blog), and proprietary ShoutBox code, I grew bored and abandoned this project not long after I started. The remains can be found at http://hendri.ninerz.com/. Oh and yes, this blog is supposed to be a part of the whole of “The Humming Bird Project”.

• halimun

  This is my username in MSN. I created this MSN account long time ago when I just started using the Internet. That time I was not sure what to use as my nickname, so I picked a word which means ‘fog’ in Sundanese (a mother tongue of the place where I came from). Coincidentally, I found out later that there’s a mountain nearby called the same. So to avoid confusion (Some people hear me say ‘fog’ as ‘fork’ or the f word. And anyway how many people know what Sundanese is?) I often say that ‘halimun’ is the name of a mountain nearby.

• hendrib

  Simple. My first name + initial of family name.

• ComPlyMe

  This was my very first nickname I ever used in the Internet world. I used it to log in to IRC for quite some time. As you might be able to see, my English wasn’t really good then. I wanted it to mean that the other person should act in accordance with my command. It didn’t last long because I thought it sounded stupid.

Well, that’s all I can remember now. If I can remember anything else I’ll add to this list.
