Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
How many of you lived your childhood in the days of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers?
I’m one of those.
Back then, the movie, or rather the dubbed-version, was one of the shows that could make me go into tantrum even if I missed only one episode–It was probably one of my favourite shows. I still remembered looking forward to Rita Repulsa (Barbara Gudson) going “Ah, after ten thousand years I’m free. It’s time to conquer earth!”. Of course, in the dubbed version she went “Ah, setelah sepuluh ribu tahun akhirnya bebas. Ayo kita kuasai bumi!” instead. The thing that gets stuck in my mind for the longest time must have been Alpha 5 (voice by Richard Steven Horvitz) with his trademark “Aye yi yi yi yi!” whenever he’s in panic.
Sadly, the Indonesian TV channel where it was showing somehow stopped the show halfway through–like what it did with many other serials. It turned out that there were many more incarnations of the show than the original one I watched.
The Damn Blog went through the hassle of finding out what happened to the cast after the last time they acted in Power Rangers. Here’s what they found. Apparently the Thuy Trang and Bob Manahan, who played the Yellow Ranger and the voice of Zordon, have passed away… Thuy Trang died on 3 September 2001 in a car crash on a Californian freeway. Most people didn’t hear the news, probably because slightly more than a week later, the September 11 incident happened and everything else became unimportant. Bob Manahan died in his sleep due to heart problem on 30 June 2000.

Ah… the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Wikipedia has a lot of info about the series. I read up about it and found this info with more details on Thuy Trang’s accident.
My favourite childhood series are undoubtedly Kamen Rider Black (Ksatria Baja Hitam) and Saint Seiya. Hmmm… maybe I should get them on DVD one day!

That reminds me, there was one episode of Sailormoon which I was supposed to tape for you back then, but I didn’t, and told you that there was power outage… In fact, I recorded AnTV by mistake instead of the correct Indosiar…

No, they didn’t stop - not that early, at least. I stopped watching the show before RCTI discontinued it - I think it was when all the ‘zords become motor vehicles or something and one of them was a giant rubber wheel. Sheesh. The quality of the show went downhill after Lord Zedd, i tell you.
I think there was also a sex clip of Amy Jo Johnson the (first) pink ranger in the internet about a year ago. But you didn’t hear about it from me! *Waves hand in front of face Jedi-like*

~XiV~: Hmmm, they didn’t? Crap… Something wrong with my memory. Getting old already lah…
And just for the sake of pointing fingers to someone else, isn’t it true that RCTI discontinued waaaaay too many shows before they end? Heheheh…
