Back in the USSR Singapore!
I’m back!
Well, actually, I came back on 7 Jan, but didn’t have the time to blog about anything. Having only 3 days (2 nights) to spend at home, I decided to make it a food trip. Here are the photos of some of the best Indonesian food I managed to grab hold of while I was in Indonesia…
Combro. Short form for the Sundanese phrase oncom di jero, which literally means oncom inside. Made of fried grated cassava and filled with oncom paste.
Bala-bala. Made of fried mix of carrot, long beans, cabbage, bean sprouts, and flour.
Nasi goreng. Indonesian fried rice. Sweeter than Singapore’s fried rice. Served with ikan teri (see below).
Nasi kerak. Crack rice. Rice served with crispy burnt base. Tastes better than it sounds. Similar to one that can be found in claypot rice in Singapore, but the dish is cooked using wok.
Ikan selar. Some sort of… fried fish.
Ikan teri. Almost equal, but not quite the same as anchovies.
Kopi susu. Coffee with milk. Tastes so much better than the kopi in Singapore.
Martabak coklat. Pancake filled with chocolate. One of the most sinful food in Indonesia. The person in striped black and white polo is not part of the food. Thanks to sylv for blogging about it at such a right time that I made sure I had one when I was in Indonesia.
Sate kambing dan sate ayam. Mutton and chicken satay, served with peanut sauce. The peanut sauce really plays a major part in making satay nice. Again, thanks to sylv for twittering about it at such a right time. Made by my father’s side grandma.
Daun singkong dan daun pepaya. Cassava and papaya leaves.
Nasi kuning. Literally yellow rice, made of rice with tumeric, chilli, and onion. Specially cooked by mum.
Tahu sumedang. Fried tofu from Sumedang. Typically eaten with chilli padi.
Last but not least, the food served on board the Lufthansa flight back to Singapore. Turkey sandwich with bakpia and salad. Nothing fantastic.

sylv: Glutton! Haha, just kidding…
hg86: Yeah, the list goes on and on. Too bad I only went home for 3 days, otherwise might add on more food to the list.
Risu: Hahahaha… I wish I had stayed longer, then can eat more food.
