Many Things

Monday, January 30th, 2006

First of all, Happy Chinese New Year to all of you who are celebrating it.

Well, yesterday and the day before was celebrated at home…

Then today went to The Gal’s house for dinner. :D Check out more about it in The Gal’s blog.

Then close to a week ago, on 24 January, The Gal and I celebrated our first mensiversary. And no, this word doesn’t have anything to do with what a lady undergoes every month, but rather it’s a word to mean the day of the month on which an event happened month(s) before. It sort of means “month anniversary”.

Well, it’s been a wonderful and memorable one month with The Gal. I must say that we went through quite a lot of ups and downs, and being together, we sort of learnt the dark other side of the other, like me being clumsy and her being morbid, of which we try to accept and accommodate. Argh! No! Don’t kill me with that chopper, please. I really elbow you by mistake! ><

Well, anyway… I don’t know what else to write. LOL.

See ya later.

Busy

Yep… The title explains how I am now.

Yesterday the chicken rice auntie at Canteen B said to me: “xiao mei*, eh, xiao di**, something-something-something-something”, where something-something-something-something stands for “what do you want to eat?” in Chinese.

That prompted me that my hair was really getting too long, and thus I decided to go to Dover for a haircut. So right now I’m back to that short hair of mine.

Ok, this entry is very bad for an update. But I’m typing this during an EE2004 Digital Electronics lecture while listening to the lecturer, so please pardon me.

Tata.

The Mouse Loves The Rice

HW801 - Language Puzzle: The Study of Human Language rocks! It’s probably the only module I ever took which gives me a very good first impression. The lecturer was really good, the girl sitting next to me was pretty, and the subject contents are entertaining. We’ll be studying things like how language develops, how language is learnt, how a person studies different languages, and a lot of other things to do with language.

Language riddles are aplenty. Hokkien speakers may want to decipher this sentence: “gong gong gong, gong gong gong gong, gong gong gong gong”.

It actually means: “can hits grandpa, grandpa says, grandpa dizzy”.

How about language and gender? Is it true that good girls don’t swear? Is it true that there are 2000 abuse terms for women, and only 3 for men?

There are videos being shown too. One of the videos shown today told a story of Genie, a child who was locked up for 10 years. She was found when she was 13, and was subject to research on whether she would be able to learn to communicate with a language as well as those who are exposed to language since they are younger. Sadly, she never managed to learn the language.

How about culture in language? Can a song be translated to another language while at the same time maintaining its original meaning? As an example, we used the translated version of the popular Chinese song ?????.

When that day I hear your voice
I have some special feeling
Let me always think I don’t wanna forget you
I remember at the day
You are always on my mind
Even though I just can think about you
If the day in the future
This love will becoming true
I’ve never change my mind that I will love you forever
I don’t care how fool it is
I will let my dream come true
I will tell you something I wanna let you know, I let you know

I love you, loving you, as the mouse love the rice
Even every day has storm, I will always by your side
I miss you, missing you
I don’t care how hard it is
I just want you be happy
Everything, I do it for you

Barring the many grammar mistakes, I almost fell off my chair when hearing the line “I love you, loving you, as the mouse love the rice”. The Gal later told me that it’s actually literally translated from Chinese, which sounds good in the Chinese lyrics.

Well, in case you’re in NTU and is interested in taking up the module, it’s not too late! Quick, go to OAS website, and check if there are any vacancies available. If there are, grab it now! Hurry, Add/Drop Period ends 18 January, 10 p.m.!

Two Four Less Lonely People In The World

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

Hmm… This is getting quite… interesting.

Another flatmate just got attached. So that makes the two of us non-singles in the house.

On another note, lecture notes for the first part of EE2002 Analog Electronics are out.

I’ve seen the notes, printed them, and now I’m getting quite scared. All those cheem stuff leh. Haiz

Oh yes, of course, new year resolutions… Almost forgot to post it up.

I don’t usually make any resolutions on new years.

But since this year is different, I shall make a simple one.

Well, my resolution this year would be…

  1. Be a good boyfriend.
  2. Be patient when facing difficulties.
  3. Work harder and more consistently.
  4. Not slack out and rush through everything in the last minute.

Simple enough?

My habit has shown that I’ve failed to fulfill numbers 3 and 4 so far. Nevertheless, I’ll try my best this time.

Numbers 1 and 2 are important, otherwise The Gal is going to slaughter me kill me tickle me to death slap me be unhappy. And yes, she can be that mean and morbid at times. I love you, The Gal.

Anyway… Time to sleep.

Good night.

Happy New Year 2006!

Sunday, January 1st, 2006

First of all, Happy New Year 2006 to all of you! I hope that the new year would be a better year to everyone.

The server has been acting up lately, so if you suddenly see my blog going missing, please wait for a few hours and try again. Lousy, lousy server… What to do? This is what you get for a cheap price.

Anyway, let me get you some updates on the happenings for the past few days.

I went for my first movie date with The Gal on Wednesday, and we watched “The Chronicles of Nanyang: The Bear, The Bug, and The University” “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Witch, The Lion, and The Wardrobe”. We managed to get one of the best seats in the row furthest from the screen, right in the middle, thanks to The Gal for her experience in booking at that particular cinema.

Although I enjoyed the visual effects, I was lost at times. Maybe I should go and read the book one day.

On Thursday, I went to register my modules for the next semester. I managed to get all my preferred slots for core subjects, and put five modules into waiting list for General Education Requirement-Prescribed Electives. Hopefully my final timetable will be a good one.

Then at night, I went to Jurong Entertainment Centre for another Digital DESIGN ‘06 meeting with the business managers, where we discussed the possible sponsors and advertisement venues, and touched up the proposal to be sent to these sponsors.

On Friday, I stayed at home and slacked. Slacked, slacked, slacked, until I realised that I had work to do for Digital DESIGN. Then I worked, worked, worked, until I got bored and switched my M1 OK Buzz Call Plan to SunTalk 150, where I can get free incoming calls any time in the day. Knowing that I receive calls much more than I make them, this would be a good investment. When the notification came that my call plan had been changed and would be effective the following day, it was 23:59:35. What a luck.

Then I continued my work on Digital DESIGN, worked, worked, worked until I got a call from SIGGRAPH Vice Chairperson and got even more work from SIGGRAPH’s side. The call lasted for 45 minutes, and I was grateful that I had switched my plan to one with free incoming calls, otherwise I would have wasted $12.60. I entered my timetable into my digital calendar, and built my to-do list for all my work. It’s a very long list currently, which I really hope that I can finish as soon and as much as possible.

And like The Gal said, “How come it’s the last day of the year and I have work to do?”. I agree fully. I mean please lah, we still haven’t enjoyed our vacation ever since we worked for the courses that SIGGRAPH held four days before Christmas. Not that I mind working during the vacation, but don’t put the bulk of the work next to a festive season lah. And give us a break, now that our vacation has been cut to a pathetic one week, at least don’t give us more work during what is left of our vacation.

Not that we’re not dedicated, but truthfully, we’re starting to get a burnout from our work with all the mess that we had to clear, ranging from the disappearing Art Director and logistics problem like softwares that refuse to run 5 days before the course. And getting a burnout from our work during a festive season is something quite serious.

OK, enough of that.

Saturday marked a week into our relationship. To say that I’m happy to meet The Gal might be an understatement. It’s not everyday that you have someone that you can really talk to, someone who can listen to you when you’re having problems, someone who shares almost the same interests, someone who can accept you as who you are, someone who is cute, someone who has a nice voice, someone who is wise, someone who cares for you, all in the same person.

Someone who knows our background may not believe that we are together. We are in different years, taking different courses, in different divisions in our ECA, and staying in two opposite ends of Singapore. But fate brought us together during an animation screening. A few weeks and a Photoshop course later, we started to click together and got to know each other better. It was a long journey of mugging sessions, Cinema 4D trainings, MSN chats, phone calls, meetings, and course organisings, before we end up here.

So to The Gal: Yes, I’m happy and thankful to meet you too. <3

So on Saturday, we went to Maxwell Food Centre for dinner. It was claypot chicken rice and pig stomach pepper soup, which we thoroughly enjoyed (someone LOL’ed at my previous food description, so I won’t do the same this time). Then we walked around in Chinatown, before proceeding back to Maxwell Food Centre again for dessert, which was mango with papaya with vanilla ice cream with almond with raisins and cranberries.

Then we went back to The Gal’s house. I quite like The Gal’s house as it is so comfortable. At the moment, I can pretty much say that the environment in the house is much more relaxed compared to the DoTA, DoTA, DoTA environment in my own house. Of course, another reason that it was more comfortable to me might be simply because there was a bug The Gal in the house. I’m also thankful that I can click pretty well with The Gal’s sis and mum.

By the way, yes, almost all of my flatmates are back. So they’re currently playing DoTA, and I’m getting quite disturbed by the noise. It’s 2 a.m. in the morning for goodness sake.

Tata.
