Wonderful World

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Wonderful World, as sung by The Flying Pickets, is one of my favourites in the past few days… I think it’s very sweet. :P
Check out The Flying Pickets’ other a capella songs too. They rock…

Don’t know much about history,
Don’t know much biology.
Don’t know much about the science books,
Don’t know much about the French I took.
But I do know that I love you,
And I know that if you love me, too,
What a wonderful world this would be.

Don’t know much about geography,
Don’t know much trigonometry.
Don’t know much about algebra,
Don’t know what a slide rule is for.
But I do know one and one is two,
And if this one could be with you,
What a wonderful world this would be.

I don’t claim to be an ‘A’ student,
But I’m tryin’ to be.
Maybe by being an ‘A’ student, baby,
I can win your love for me.

Blog Cautiously…

Singapore schools punish cheeky student bloggers: Singapore schools have begun a clampdown on students who insult teachers in online journals by punishing them with suspensions.

Ok, I’m taking down some old entries. :P

Silver Lining

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Anyway… one good thing happened to me today.

I got back my laboratory formal report… and I’ve got an A!

Yay! That’s my first time ever getting an A for my formal report since my year 1. :-)
Click to read the formal report.

But copyrighted, hor. Can download, can read, but cannot copy and use, hor.

(I have this funny feeling that noone will listen to that copyright notice. Haiz…)

Sigh…

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

It’s doomed from the start.

I should have expected it.

I’m seriously sick of being the only group motivator.

The only one who keeps on calling for meetings, which usually end up with an argument anyway.

In times like this when I’m super busy, I really wish that I can just drop the module and leave the group by themselves.

Or do the entire project by myself.

Sigh…

I can almost see my first class honours slipping away…

Tired,

First Training

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Busy, busy, busy… As promised, here’s a story on what happened on Saturday. I figured out that since most of the following coincides with what I was going to write, I might as well copy-and-paste the entire thing. Heheheh… (6)

Hmm…today was my first training session at Solutions 3, Mun Hean Building, 53 Kim Keat Road, Opposite NKF Building. Before that, SW messaged Hendri and asked if the building was Mun Meat Building… *dots… it was so totally hilarious when I saw the sms.. .muhahaha…

There were 13 of us attending this training provided by solutions 3 and using the software promptly known as Cinema4d. User interface is friendlier than Blender 3D. hehe…

Then the course started..initially was ok and then got more and more lost as the trainer, James was like blazing through the tutorials on introduction to Cinema4d user interface as well as the usage of the tools to produce our stuff… I was like oh my god… I am totally lost… simply so frustrated till wanna give up…it was this bad… *even pple could see the frown on my face lol…

Then when we had our break…most of us were like complaining that the pace was somewhat too fast for most of us to handle… then we gave feedback to the instructor and he went slower, much to my delight. I managed to come out with my first 3D model of a mug..hehe… and after rendering it.. it has a red glow and was totally so beautiful that I screenshot it… gee… that was my breaking in to 3D designing….

SO cool… but it tests your patience as u slowly try to figure out how to model the shapes… and I discovered that the objects we see in everyday life are made up of primitives shape (Editor’s note: Real life objects are based on primitives instead of made up of them. :-D)… hmm…maybe it will take me a while to get used to figuring out how to visualize the complex shapes into simple shapes…

After the course..which ended at 1.45 pm, we were held back for a discussion with the arts director… and we sort of haven decided what software to use for the animation thingy due next June… Wat the hell..cos we had few meetings harping on the same agenda…

Walked under the unforgivable weather and ate our lunch near whompoa road. *how u spell it?

I’m so evil… People write so much and I didn’t even bother to paraphrase. Gonna fail my Technical Communication class like this. Plagiarise people’s work… Haiz. Speaking of which the Technical Communication project goes quite haywire with our topic getting changed everytime we meet. Hopefully we can stay with the current one and get it done and over with.

Sigh…

Cried

Under a lot of stress… And I realise I will be under even more stress within the next few weeks… It’s as if there’s this huge block of steel labelled ‘Stress’ being dropped on top of me from a height of 100 metres… Lots of projects due… Personal events happening… Piling assignments… Backdated revisions… Shortage of sleep…

Panic mode…

For the friends I have offended: Sorry.

For the friends who were there for me: Thanks.

For you: :-)
And guys aren’t supposed to cry, isn’t it?

MSAS Messenger Plus! Petition

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

Remember the post about Messenger Plus!’s petition against the inclusion of Messenger Plus! in MS Anti-Spyware?

Here’s a follow-up from Patchou, the creator of Messenger Plus!.

The MSAS petition has been sent

Hello every body,

In only 4 weeks, you’ve been more than 400,000 to sign the MSAS petition. This number is simply incredible, especially if you consider that when the petition was closed, tens of thousands of new signatures were still being added every day. In any case, we think that 401,683 signature (final number obtained after excluding invalid/duplicate entries) should be enough to attain our objectives and if it doesn’t, more signatures would probably not have been of much help.

The complete listing of signatures, which includes your contact information and comments, has been printed and sent to Microsoft today. The document was formatted with Times New Roman 9pt with borders size at minimum but still achieved to be 10,137 pages long! That’s about 110 pounds (50Kg) of written support so thanks again for your help everyone :-). Of course, as the petition was sent under all of your names, the results will be made public when and if Microsoft sends us a reply. I sincerely don’t want this issue to go any further and I’m counting on Microsoft to realize that it’s in the best interest of everyone to solve that detection/removal problem. Keep checking this page (or use the RSS feed) to know what happens next!

Patchou

Apparently some of the forum users in some countries call in the media to cover the event… Does anybody want to call up Channel News Asia? :P

Live From Lecture

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

Having EE2008 Day Structure and Algoristmas now… Currently the lecturer is going through the divide and conquer method which is the method supposed to be used for merging and sorting arrays. Which I did go through back when I was still in JC taking computing.

Before this was EE2006 Engineering Mathematics I. We went through this cool thing called Bayes’ Theorem and its use in Probability and Statistics. The cool thing is that Bayes’ Theorem is the exact same thing being used in POPFile, the program I use together with Mozilla Thunderbird to sort out which emails are supposed to be personal, blog comments, spam, from Friendster, NTU Stuff, subscribed groups, and subscribed emails.

POPFile analyses incoming emails for the words contained and assigns a category for the emails. It can be trained by telling it which category an email is supposed to go to if it classifies wrongly, and it will learn and adjust the probability numbers of the words contained in its database in such a way that the next time it encounters the same words, it will put the email in the correct category. Not just some words, but the entire email, including links.

Of course there will be mistakes from time to time and the initial classification was pretty much inaccurate, but after sorting about 15,255 emails (I didn’t know I’ve had that many emails!) it has achieved an accuracy rating of 97.25%, which is impressive because I’ve set up 8 different possible categories for classification.

If you use Mozilla Thunderbird or MS Outlook and has been plagued by spam emails, or if you want a program to automatically categorise your emails, check out POPFile. You’re gonna love it.
