What The?

Monday, May 31st, 2004

Dear Diary,

I checked my e-mail today in the afternoon to find 5 new e-mails. Over the next few hours I was online, I received another 4 new e-mails. When I got online in the night, I checked my e-mail again, only to receive 1 new e-mail. All in all, I got 3 subscribed newsletters, 2 subscribed groups, and 5 spam e-mails.

What is this world coming to today?

What happened to the other mailing lists I have subscribed to?

What happened to Friendster? No more new messages or new friend requests?

What happened to my blog? Nobody wanted to say hi?

And most intriguing: What happened to spam which have dilligently coughed out at least 20 of my received e-mails daily?

Hmmm,

bcc

Edit: Oops. I forgot today was Sunday… My ‘day’, by the way, is defined as the day in which I spend most of my time, from the time I wake up and the time when I sleep. It’s not the time at which I post this entry. I never knew that spam takes a rest on Sundays…

Whew…

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Dear Diary,

I’ll be honest. I was in shock today. The reason is not to be known to others as I’ve made a promise. Well, I did joke about what I heard last night, but that didn’t prevent me from not being able to sleep properly last night. I was probably still in shock in some parts of the day that some of what I did didn’t make much sense.

Well, not that I always make sense anyway. But that’s besides the point.

Well, to ST: Thanks. I’m feeling much better now. Doesn’t mean that it’s over already, but I think I can manage now. I hope. Thanks a lot.

Okay,

Dear Diary,

Pablo sitting to the side of my laptop. A pile of Mentos wrappers to my left. A container full of fresh Mentos just next to and behind Pablo. Headphones attached to laptop. Internet connection almost 80% of the time today. “For The Beauty Of The Earth” MIDI and CD running over and over again. Cloud fogging my brain. I think I’m going crazy. Again? So it wasn’t ‘pretty funny’ after all…

Hooked

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

Dear Diary,

I’m totally hooked to the song “For The Beauty Of The Earth”. That song has been the only song playing completely in my Winamp for today. I especially like the MIDI version today as the MIDI synthesizer in the computer can render the song such that it sounds quite melancholic, suitable with my mood for today.

Melancholic,

Spring Cleaning

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

Dear Diary,

For those who haven’t noticed, I’ve done some cleaning at my site. All entries prior to 1 January 2004 and Blogger Archive have been deleted. I think it’s much better to just bury everything in the past behind (heh, I was the one who told a friend “the past is the past”) and start again afresh before I start university. I do keep a ZIP-ped copy of everything just in case.

Now, one request for my dear readers. I love comments. So, please leave a comment. Anything. Any comment. Just say hi. Complain about my style. Complain about me bitching about Anyi all the time. Whatever. You don’t need to use your real name or nickname, anonymous entries are fine. Thank you.

Fresh,

For The Beauty Of The Earth

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

Dear Diary,

Let me share with you this beautiful hymn, which I fell in love with after listening to it in the ‘Divine’ album. The song in the album was performed by the ‘Choir of Uppingham School’, which has definitely transformed the song into one beautiful and heavenly piece. Those who like choir songs should also sample this song as the arrangement is simply too amazing to resist.

I found a MIDI version of the song, which is not bad. The actual song is even better than the MIDI. Due to copyright issues, I don’t dare to upload the actual song. You should be able to find the CD (or the MP3) by some other means which I shall not discuss here. Enjoy!

For The Beauty Of The Earth - Anthony Way

(John Rutter/Pierpoint Choir, Orchestra)
Published by Oxford University Press
P 1997 the Decca Record Company Limited, London
For the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies;
For the love which from our birth,
Over and around us lies,
Over and around us lies;

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This, our joyful hymn of praise.

For the beauty of each hour,
Of the day and of the night;
Hill and vale and tree and flow’r,
Sun and moon, and stars of light,
Sun and moon, and stars of light;

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This, our joyful hymn of praise.

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parents, child;
Friends on Earth and friends above,
For all gentle thoughts and mild,
For all gentle thoughts and mild;

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This, our joyful hymn of praise.

For each perfect gift of Thine,
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine;
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven;

Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise.

Chinese to Pinyin Converter, Anyone?

Tuesday, May 25th, 2004

Dear Diary,

Does anyone know any tool or program to help me convert Chinese characters to Hanyu Pinyin? The reason why I need this is because some programs in my computer cannot view Chinese characters and even if they can, I don’t read Chinese characters.

You see, I have a lot of Chinese songs which I think are quite nice, and I’d really like to call them by name, for example “Luo Mi Ou Yu Zhu Li Ye” by “Wu Yue Tian” (forgive me if I spelt any of those wrongly) instead of “the Chinese song whose name looks like a twig” by “the Chinese singer whose name looks like a stick figure”. Anyone?

Or if you can convert them for me I’d be very happy. It’s just that there are quite a lot of them, something like 18 albums.

Doesn’t read Chinese,

Masih…

Monday, May 24th, 2004

Dear Diary,

I have heard this song over and over again ever since the advertisement for a skin whitener product from Ponds (a cosmetics brand) first aired on TV. (The song is the theme song for the ad). I thought it was nice. However, it was not until it was featured in Konser AFI that I decided that I just have to get the song. I ended up listening to it more than ten times in a row. So here’s the lyrics to the song. Enjoy!

Masih (Sahabatku, Kekasihku)
by: Ada Band
Rasa cinta yang dulu t’lah hilang
Kini berseri kembali
T’lah kaucoba lupakan dirinya
Hapus cerita lalu

Dan lihatlah
Dirimu bagai bunga di musim semi
Yang tersenyum menatap indahnya dunia
Yang seiring menyambut
Jawaban s’gala gundahmu

Chorus:
Walau badai menghadang
Ingatlah ku kan selalu setia
Menjagamu
Berdua kita lewati
Jalan yang berliku tajam

Resah yang kau rasakan
Kan jadi bagian hidupku bersamamu
Letakkanlah segala lara di pundakku ini

S’tiap waktu wajahmu yang lugu
S’lalu ilhami langkahku
Telah lama kunanti dirimu
Tempat ku kan berlabuh

Cahaya hatiku
Yakinlah kan kekal abadi s’lamanya
Seperti bintang yang sinarnya terangi
S’luruh ruang di jiwa
Membawa kedamaian

And here’s the rough translation of the song, helped by two of my friends:

Still (My Best Friend, My Lover)
by: Ada Band
The lost love
Now springs back to life
You’ve tried to forget him
Erase the old story

And look
You are like a flower in the spring
Who smiles looking at the beauty of the world
Who together welcomes
The answer to all your worries

Chorus:
Even though the storm blocks your way
Just remember that I’ll always be there
To protect you
Together we go through
The winding road

The worry you feel
Will be a part of me with you
Put all your sadness on my shoulder

Every moment your innocent face
Always inspires my every step
I’ve been waiting for you for so long
The place where my heart harbours

The light of my heart
Trust that it will stay forever
Like the star whose light shines
Upon all the rooms in the soul
Bringing peace

Still,

bcc
