Goodbye Blogger, Hello Movable Type

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

Whee! The switch-over has finished. So my blog will be running on Movable Type from now on. :) It still looks plain, because I still haven’t customised the template yet. I will do this over the next few days. So, expect to see a lot of changes for the next few days… :)
Oh yeah, I can’t seem to move over comments into Movable Type, so in case you’re somehow interested in seeing the old comments, you may do so by clicking on the Blogger Archive link to the side.

And one more thing, ignore all my posts regarding BackMOB, and anything on the old Blogger blog. They’re now no longer relevant.

Cheers!

Hmmm… The shopkeeper must have

Tuesday, January 27th, 2004

Hmmm… The shopkeeper must have thought I was lovesick.

I bought three items at the music store, all of which are in one way or the other related to… love. My sister asked me to buy two cassettes for her, both of which are soundtracks of two sinetrons (si·net·ron (see-net-ron) n. abbr. of si·ne·ma e·lek·tro·nik (see-nem-ma ay-lack-tro-nick) n. movie, drama, etc. made specially for broadcasting on electronic media, e.g. television; source: Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia, Balai Pustaka).

One is 30 Hari Mencari Cinta (30 Days Searching For Love). The other is Kisah Sedih di Hari Minggu (Sad Story on Sunday), another love-story sinetron shown on TV on Tuesday, despite the quite-obvious title.

And then while searching for those two cassettes, my eyes were stuck on another title. So I bought a Love Actually Soundtrack CD on impulse. It seems that a part of me wants to keep a part of the movie with me… somehow. Maybe because it was the most-recent sweet-movie that I watch. I’ll probably buy the VCD / DVD when it comes out…

Oh yeah, by the way, does anyone want me to buy any CDs or cassettes here and bring them over to Singapore when I come back? They’re slightly cheaper here… I bought the soundtrack CD for Rp. 75,000 (~ SGD 15.63), and each cassette costs Rp. 19,000 (~ SGD 3.96). The price might differ between titles though.

What the??? I just saw

What the??? I just saw my blog on a CRT monitor, and all I see is PURPLE!! Ugly purple! Whatever looks fine on my LCD screen will show darker on the CRT monitor, and hence the background turned purple! No wonder one of you said it was purple! And the yellow of the side bar looks ugly on CRT too! Bah!

Purple background, I saw.
Purple background, I hated.
So, purple background, begone!
:)

Blink, and you’ve missed it.

Blink, and you’ve missed it. “Semi-Transparent Bluey” was up from 1 AM to 3 AM Western Indonesian Time (GMT +7), which is around 2 AM to 4 AM Singapore Time (GMT + 8) last night. It’s a slight modification from this Bluey theme, which is slightly cooler (in my opinion) but uses a hell lot of resources. I took it down after a viewer reported that he was “dying even trying to scroll”.

Oh yeah, I’ll be undergoing a mini-operation to remove a small part of my gum which, according to the dentist, prohibits a tooth from growing next Saturday. I hope that everything will go well. And I’m sure it will. :)
Update: BackMOB now supports a range of smileys, stolen from MSN Messenger… I think I stole it from version 5, so some newer smileys may not work. You can put them the same way as putting smileys in MSN chat window (ie. :), :(, :-), :’-(, (g), (6), (@) will work). Also, I added some bulletin-board style smileys capabilities, so , :omg:,, :bat: will work as well.

Dreams are amazing… Virtually anything

Dreams are amazing… Virtually anything can happen in one.

Well, three days ago I dreamt that I was receiving my ‘A’ Levels results. It was Mr. P who gave out the results, and he spoke Indonesian with a fluent Sundanese accent! (Sundanese is the mother tongue of the West Java province where I’m from) Anyway, he gave out the results, and instead of results slip, he gave me the actual answer scripts, with the score written using a red marker pen on the upper margin of the first sheet!

I got a 10, 9 and 8.5 for the three subjects that I take (I don’t what happened to the other subject… I presume it’s marked using Indonesian system where the highest score you can get is 10). But the next thing that I got disappointed me as I realised that I only got a 4.5 for General Paper, which is a fail under Indonesian system!

That’s it for the three-days-old dream.

Now for last night’s dream: I dreamt that I was back in Singapore. (See? I’m starting to miss Singapore already) I was watching a show together with everyone else from the same cohort as I am in ACJC! It was in a place that I called the ‘Shaw House’ in the dream. It had a big, circular escalator connecting the first storey and the fifth!

Everyone from the cohort was there, and was wearing those beautiful clothes that you saw during prom. It was a wonderful feeling, seeing everyone again. I remembered seeing some of the classmates there… Some of the people I got to know only in ACJC… The couples who were no longer couples, and the non-couples who became couples… I remembered seeing the certain she too, in exactly the same dress she wore during prom…

Then after the show, I lost my shoes. (don’t ask me how I lost them) And I realised this only after exiting the building! So I went back inside, and wore my sandals. (don’t ask me how I got them) But it was to no avail. The trip to the sixth storey, where the theatre was was a difficult one. On the way up, JS (the one from the Arts) went to close my eyes and held me on the circular escalator, so I was back on the first storey. Then I tried taking another escalator, but somehow this escalator only goes up half-a-storey at a time, so I had to take the escalator so many more times than usual!

Upon reaching the theatres, they were already locked, so I decided that I would report to the Lost and Found department. And then a loud thunderclap was heard, and I woke up… Stupid, stupid thunder!

Dreams are amazing, aren’t they?

Well, that’s it I guess.

Well, that’s it I guess. The end of the only Chinese New Year where I’ll be at home. At least in the period from the time I came to Singapore until I finish university bond. And it was so screwed.

I was so pissed that I decided to stay in my room in the morning until the relatives left. So I didn’t greet any of them happy Chinese New Year. Not even the family who lives in the house, except my Mum. So I’m a spoiled child? So what? My image is already ruined anyway. Blah…

But I went to maternal grandma’s place to say happy Chinese New Year to everyone who happened to be there. I think I prefer the situation there. Everyone in the house seems to bond well with each other, unlike here…

It’s these times that I’m starting to miss Singapore quite badly…

I’m damn pissed…

This is my first Chinese New Year at home since I went to Singapore. So that would mean the first Chinese New Year for the past 5 years. And it’s likely that I won’t be celebrating Chinese New Year at home for the next 7 years or so, due to university and the bond.

And my uncle just pissed me off.

No, no, it has nothing to do with not enough money in the red packet. It’s something else. Something quite personal. It just seems that nothing good facts about the children here (me, Sis and Bro) ever gets known to the outside, meaning friends and families in other cities. But when it comes to bad facts, it will spread to everyone like fire in the bushes, with some alteration in the news to make it sound even worse, what the ****?!?

Blah… Anyway: Happy Chinese New Year, everyone…

Yesterday morning I was at

Wednesday, January 21st, 2004

Yesterday morning I was at Juanda Airport, Surabaya, taking a look at the architecture of the airport. I took a Boeing 737 and more than an hour later I was back at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

In the afternoon, I braced myself for the heavy storm and flew to Singapore Changi Airport, and landed safely.

Today, I decided to make a change in plans, and went to London. I took a Boeing 747 from Heathrow Airport to Orly in Paris. Apparently this was my not-so-lucky flight. That was the first time another plane, a de Havilland Dash 8 went past my plane, less than 1000 feet above. Apparently the de Havilland flew lower than its assigned altitude. Luckily nothing bad happened, and I continued my way to Orly airport.

Then another incident struck. Apparently a plane landing in front of mine couldn’t clear the runway in time, so the plane I was on was instructed to “go-around”, meaning that the plane had to fly away from the airport and retry the landing. The second try was better as the plane managed to land safely.

The next leg of my trip brought me to Malpensa Airport at Milan. It brought me through the breath-taking Alps Mountains! It was so beautiful, looking through the window at the snow-covered peaks. The descent was a little scary as the plane was so close to the ground that I worried that the plane will hit the mountain side. It didn’t happen though, otherwise I won’t be able to type this.

The next leg will bring me on a short, 30-minute trip to Venice. It will not happen until at least tomorrow, though, as I was too tired. I said ‘at least tomorrow’, because who knows what I will do tomorrow. I might be flying somewhere else, or I might enjoy killing some people and stealing cars in Grand Theft Auto. Heck, I might even continue sewing my teddy bear.

Ah… The wonders of Microsoft Flight Simulator. :)

I went to Sukabumi to have my first dental check-up in more than 3 years. Bad, bad, bad… I’ve got several holes over several of my teeth! It somewhat freaked me out when the dentist finally took out the drill, one instrument which I haven’t seen for such a long time. Worse was when it hit the nerve endings in the tooth (I’ve only one hole ‘fixed’ today… Have to go to the dentist again on Monday) Well, it’s not so much pain, but it was the location of the pain that made it bad!

Oh well, I guess it’s a sign… to brush my teeth better the next time… and to go for regular dental check-ups instead of going for one only after more than 3 years. Hurmph…
