I was one sad person

Monday, October 13th, 2003

I was one sad person on Friday. the first thing, obviously was because it was the last day of school for all of us. most of us, that is, unless you come from other jcs that still have school until the exams. the second thing is that the fact that i didn’t get the photo that i’ve wanted to take. i waited until like 12.30 pm, but they are still taking lotsa class photos, and i had to go for class outing. so i decided to forgo the idea and just go for class outing. sigh…

come to think of it, it’s kinda an irony. we’re more or less back to friendship terms. it’s like, it’s now relatively easy for me to just come up and sit down on the same table, talking about stuff. as compared to the last time. we can now joke, as if there’s nothing that had happened earlier. the sad thing is that that’s the last week of school, so there would be no more of that. and another irony is that i joked with another friend that i was there to take a photo of the person. in the end, we didn’t take any photos at all, even after baccalaureate service. hahah… haiz…

oh well, baccalaureate service over, i went to join the class for the last official class outing during school terms, despite being very late. and i made everyone there waited for tai tat and i. sorry everyone.. :S

so yeah, went to the beach at sentosa. took lotsa photos. some of them are quite good… according to my friend, that is. i’ll go upload them when i’m done sorting everything and scripting the html links.

i’m in school now… supposed to stay in school to study, cos my stupid hall at the boarding school decided to do prep for all jc2 and sec 4s. haiz… so i decided to skip prep and stay back in school instead. haiz…

btw, why is it that noone accepts my offer to be my friend? :(
oh, i just realised that out of the many stars i’ve done, about half of them are unacceptable because they’re simply too big. so now i’m left with more to do…. haiz. maybe buying such a big container is not a very good idea. oh well…

i scripted a commenting system on my blog from scratch on saturday. i tentatvely call it BackMOB. go ahead and use it. it’s quite simple, really. it’s part of my own blogging system that is tentatively called MyMOB. MOB is short of ‘My Online Blog’. In the future, if i were to continue, it should have a template editor, an entire blogging sytem by itself, commenting system, guestbook, photo album, multimedia gallery, general blog commenting system, and probably some other stuff which i haven’t thought about yet.

back to doing my other stuff.

Today is official last day

Thursday, October 9th, 2003

Today is official last day of my 13.5 years of education. No, that’s not a typo. It’s 13.5 years of education. In case you don’t know, I had to go down by one level when I came here in Sec 3. Add that to the fact that Indonesian and Singaporean education years differ by half-a-year, and you can figure out the difference.

There’s a kind of a mix of feelings within me.

Well, I’ve never hated school. I love school. It’s just that I don’t really like the fact that you have to do work at school. I mean, where else can you find other people going through the same thing with you together as a class? Where else can you make a lot of friends as easily as just going to where he is and probably ask questions as an excuse to get to know the other person better?

Of course, working is a different story altogether.

On the other hand, well, this is the end of formal education. No more uniforms. No more compulsory classes. No more teachers to nag you for work–I heard in university, you have to make a self-conscious effort to approach the lecturers. No more spoonfeeding of materials. No more…..

I’m gonna miss school.

And the class, too.

You! Why did you drag

You!

Why did you drag me downstairs? Didn’t you see I was talking to someone else?

Haiz…

Never mind, it’s over anyway.

Haiz… Lazy to blog now…

I went to West Mall to look for some present for a friend yesterday. And then in the night there’s this visit by an NTU professor at the boarding school regarding studies in NTU. And my friend brought down something that looked like small pieces of fries. But when I took a closer look, I realised it was fried caterpillar! And everyone there has eaten the thing! (it’s supposed to be food anyway) Yuck!

i just went through my blog entries since it started almost a year ago. and then i went like, “wah-lau… wth? was that really me?” hmmm… quite unbelievable. i mean, if you told me i would be like that one year ago, i would have laughed. even now, i think i more or less can accept that those are something of the past…

now… my account for the weekend.

friday. zay started arguing with me again. after so many weeks of me being in a good mood. this time about some christian priests that, according to him, are gay. but the thing that upset me was that the way he said it made it seem like he was the one saying that all of a sudden, without any evidence. and what the ****, he always had some reason or the other to rebuff whatever i was trying to say to counter him. but not to worry. that’s a small thing. at least i didn’t really get affected by it too much

saturday. morning i went to njc for the scholars debriefing thingie. then after the blah blah blah by the scholarships officers, we were supposed to go for batch outing, as planned the previous day. but wtf, i was involved in this stupid tea session! and so i asked my friend to organise, so they went first. at first i thought the tea session was just eating and informal chatting, which i can always leave after 15 minutes. it turned out to be one in which you’re supposed to sit around a conference table, talking to the deputy director of school placement and scholarships section of the moe about whatever things that concern you as a scholar. so it dragged on for, like, one-and-a-half hours. so i could only leave at around 12.30.

i was quite unhappy about it, because it had been a very, very long time since the batch of scholars last went together as one. and when i was told by my friend that there were 12 people coming, i was quite upset. that’s quite a big number for us, because normally our batch outings were only attended by something like 5 people or so. but anyway, i decided that i would meet them at orchard directly (they were eating at ikea then). so i went to orchard, had my lunch, and joined them. buuttt……. after that we had a small dispute as to what to do then. some of us wanted to watch underworld, some wanted to watch 28 days later, some wanted to watch something that has ‘dancing’ in the title, and some wanted to play pool. and so, we all broke up. dammit! i’ve been waiting for so long to go out together with everyone else, and what happened was like this!

but anyway, so 5 of us went to watch underworld, 3 to play pool, and 2 to walk around to i-don’t-know-where. the other 2 have been missing since i joined the group. sigh… anyway, i went with the group who watched underworld. it was quite a good show, despite being hazy in the beginning. in short, it told a story of *spoiler alert* a war between the lykens (not very sure how to spell), which is basically werewolves, and the vampires. so in the movie you’ll have the lykens using ultraviolet bullets and the vampires using silver nitrate bullets. the plot is more or less straightforward. the visual is quite good too, with quite good effects. go and watch it yourself, i’m too lazy to review at this time. not that i can review well anyway.

so after movie i went to join those playing pool. oh, maybe i should tell you the background story first. i have this friend of mine, whose birthday was on sunday. so his girlfriend organised a surprise barbeque for him, with his classmates and some of the indonesian friends (me included) invited. and the thing is that, out of the 6 people who ended up at the pool place, one was the guy having birthday, and four were the people who were supposed to go for the surprise party. so one by one we pretended that we wanted to leave, but in reality, we met up somewhere else. then we took taxi to the gf’s place and surprised him. luckily he was taking a bus there so it took quite a while for him to reach there. it was quite funny, because he was in a state of shock for a few minutes. maybe he was ok with the fact that his classmates were there, but he was quite in a daze that the four of us, who were just playing pool with him a few minutes earlier, were there at the surprise barbeque too!

so yeah, that’s a long one for saturday.

sunday, which is today. i went to library to pay my fines, but then i ended up not doing so because they were having problems with ez-link card and i didn’t have any cashcard to use. so i just walked around, and did a random look at the books there. one book caught my attention. it was called ‘how to beat burnout’. interested, i picked the book up, and started reading. and oh my, there are a lot of the things that are covered in the book which are exactly the same as what i’ve been experiencing! i was quite surprised, because what i experienced, of me being depressed and sick of work and all those, was actually just me being burnt out! if only i had found the book earlier… i haven’t finished reading yet, so expect me to bring the book to school the next few days.

oh well, time to stop now. and anyway my roommate is already complaining of my noisy typing.

i’m a bit worried about my autograph book.

it’s not that i don’t trust her to keep the book well.

but things may get complicated if she reads that entry.

as is the case with some other people whom i asked to sign the book.

sigh…

Wednesday, October 1st, 2003

ok, i had a bad dream last night. what do you think of student terrorism? here’s a more-detailed story of it.

it all began as a nice day at acjc. when i walked up the stairs to enter the hall, there was this sign, guarded by teachers. it said something like: “guards with arms are not allowed, due to government’s regulation against this”. dismissing it, i entered the hall.

the hall in my dream was somewhat different, because there was this place on top of the front of the hall where, i think, the mrc can use. or maybe it was a storage area or something. all of a sudden, a guy appeared on the window carrying a shotgun. and he started shooting at people. panic ensued, and funnily enough, none of the people in the hall ran out. instead, they ducked, which is fruitless, obviously, because the person who was shooting was upstairs. blood sputtered and people who were hit collapsed.

then i saw some movement at the edge of my eye. two people stood up and started shooting at people too! they were armed with pistols. and the funny thing is.. the two of them are my friends! npc and wo. tkn was ducking right in front of me. and then we overheard npc talking to wo something about vietnamese, and tkn muttered, ’shit!’.

the part from here until i got outside of the building was really hazy. but the next thing i knew, i was outside, at the concourse. i could see dk with some people armed with rifles at the opposite side of the track. another funny thing is that instead of the field, i saw rocks, which somewhat made a good object to block their view. so some of my classmates and i decided to take a risk of running outside to the front gate. so we walked on the track, and all of a sudden, dk’s voice boomed: ‘i told you to look at the front!’. and i think some people were pointing their guns at us from afar. we decided to give it up, and walked towards them instead. dk ordered us to go on top of the rocks, and somehow, he whipped out a writing pad and took attendance. i saw some of my classmates’ names there…

so after he took attendance, he ordered us to decorate some booth. and this part is really funny, because can you imagine, people asking us to decorate a booth after pointing rifles at us?

the rest of the dream wasn’t there, because i woke up after that.

but i can tell you, it was very freaky! imagine people threatening to kill you. and they did kill a few people already. and the worst thing is that you can’t even see them because you were ducking! it was so bad that for the first time ever, i just muttered a short prayer in a dream!

maybe He’s just trying to say, “Hendri, I can call you anytime. And it’s a fact that you’re not ready to see Me yet.”? Well, maybe…

ps: some search strings that yielded my site: “school bird project” and “expand and contract using dhtml”. lol…
