hello… i haven’t blogged in

hello…

i haven’t blogged in quite a while. the reason for that is that there’s a lack of decent connection at school and at the boarding school. i have soooo many things to talk about. both good and bad. but yet, the sheer amount of things to talk about makes me lazy to talk about it. and moreover, the connection here is very slow! it takes me, like, a few minutes just to open my mail. so, let’s see my mood first later. if i’m in the mood and if i have time, i’ll go talk about it offline, then upload it one day. if not, then too bad.

ok, maybe for now i’ll just tell you that i just bought the celtic tenors’ and aselin debison’s cds. celtic tenors’ is called ‘irish album’ while aselin’s is ’sweet is the melody’.

hey, i didn’t know that the official tag for italics in html is <em>! I always thought it was <i>! but anyway…

the tenors’ voices are lovely. they have a perfect harmonisation. not to mention nice songs too. they have a perfect blend of sounds and music. one particular one that i like is called ‘Fionnghuala’. It’s an a capella scottish song. their harmonisation is just nice… ok fine, my vocabulary is not so good so as to convey the idea of what i mean. i’ll go upload the song one day and you listen for yourself. the others that i like include ‘Whiskey in the Jar’, an fast-paced song which is supposed to be irish but sounds more cowboy-ey, as a friend puts it. i also like ‘The Fields of Athenry’, and ‘The Town I Loved So Well’. Those are my favorites, but the rest are equally good.

aselin’s voice has some quality which i’m yet to identify… something which i really like. although she sometimes sounds like someone who sings with her nose shut… and the songs are somewhat refreshing too. unlike normal teenage songs (she’s only 12), her songs don’t really include things like love, violence, or exaggerated romance (ok, i forgot what the things are… they’re from gp mock exam paper, a.k.a. rjc promos 2002). in fact, i first thought her songs are christian songs, although they’re definitely not. the ones i like are ‘Moonlight Shadow’, and ‘Medley: Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World’.

Oh, by the way, go and listen to Sarah Brightman’s ‘What A Wonderful World’. The song is rendered so lively… Especially the chorus part. The part that says something like ‘I see friends shaking hands, saying :”How do you do?” They’re really saying, “I love you.”‘ Lovely…

Hmm… ok, that’s it for today. see ya!

i fell in love again

Monday, September 22nd, 2003

i fell in love again on saturday.

it’s quite a surprise for me because it was so fast. the name is Jasmine. when i saw Jasmine for the first time, my first reaction was that Jasmine is just like any others. So, i treated Jasmine just like any others. when i woke up on saturday afternoon (yes, i know, i’m very lazy), it was raining quite heavily. as the rain abated, i had my lunch. with Jasmine. and although it was just instant noodles, the very presence of Jasmine made it special. and that was the very moment i realised the warmth of Jasmine and the refreshing behaviour that Jasmine has. and soon enough, i was in love. i had snack with Jasmine again later on in the afternoon. and Jasmine was still the same Jasmine that i had lunch with. moreover, this Jasmine is indonesian, with quite likely a chinese origin. so, if you would like to try Kepala Djenggot’s Jasmine Tea, contact me. i’ll let you have a sample.

but seriously speaking, i actually like the tea.

now, love affair and corny joke aside, i have a review here. it’s on the movie ‘eight legged freaks’. yeah, i know, the movies that i watch are always those old movies that noone really bothers about. in case you’re not interested, just skip to the end of the review.

– REVIEW BEGIN –

well, i think that the movie is quite good. it’s set in a small town called Prosperity in Arizona. the movie is about spiders, as you might have inferred from the title. gigantic ones, that is. the reason why they became gigantic is that there was a barrel of toxic waste being thrown into a river out of a truck as it swerves to avoid hitting a rabbit which jumped out of nowhere. and joshua, the owner of an ‘exotic spider farm’ nearby happened to notice that his spiders became larger at a much faster rate if he feeds them with crickets found near the river. so he continued to do so. but, as always happens in such movies, an accident happened and the thousands of spiders were released outside the farm, killing joshua in the process too.

now, frankly, i almost freaked out. and that’s because i’m a little bit arachnophobic. that’s the term of scared of spiders, in case you don’t know. not the small ones, but those with long, small, and maybe hairy legs. ugh.. just the thought alone makes me a little scared. but anyway, on with the review:

so later on in the movie, pets began to disappear. oh, there was one segment where a cat fights with the spider over a hole in the wall. and you can hear the karate screams, and cat face or spider shape being pressed on the wall. now, that part is hilarious. and after that people began to disappear, as they are caught by the spiders and, depending on the type of spider, eaten or enclosed in a cocoon, to be brought back to their lair and presented to the spider queen. the sheriff, a female character named sam, led the town together with chris to destroy the spider invasion. ok, i have a very bad memory in remembering actor names, so i hope you’re ok with character names instead.

and so the town (or rather half of the town that is left) are led to this mall, which is connected to a mine, which apparently was the breeding ground for the spiders. and they all went into the mine, and ideas kicked in, and they planned to destroy the spiders as the spiders return to the mines. they can do this by exploding the abandoned mine, which is filled by methane gas.

and so they did.

aside from the main plot, the movie also have some subtle messages in it, such as the message to refrain from smoking. and they have side actors such as this radio DJ who always warns the people about the imminent alien invasions. but of course, people take this lightly, and when the sheriff broadcasted the crisis that they had, noone really bothered until it was a little too late. and the directors threw in a lot of jokes too. not quite what you would expect from a horror movie. in fact, according to some, this movie is considered to be a comedy instead of horror. like how the cat and spider shapes are pressed to the wall from inside the wall, pretty much like the ones in the cartoons. the cat died, by the way. all the spiders have personalities too. it’s quite funny to see one spider on top of the gates of the shopping mall, waving to the sea of spiders as if to tell them to go on. or how a spider shouted ‘ow! ow! ow! ow! ow!’ as it is being dragged by a car. or how a spider spits out ‘ptooi!’ a souvenir moose head.

the graphics is quite commendable, except maybe the greenish goo that splats out of a spider everytime one is squashed or blown off or shot at. the ‘goo’ is still very much visible as computer generated.

overall, i would give the movie an 8/10

– REVIEW END –

i’m listening to enya’s songs now. i never knew that her songs are quite nice. by the way, i just copied a hell lot of songs from my friends cd’s as well as my brother’s mp3 collection. and now i’m left with 10 GB+ of songs, with a total length of exceeding 160 hours!

well, i think i have to stop now. there are still a lot of things that i’d really love to talk about, but then i have to sleep. g’night!

Itsy Bitsy Spider
performed by: Joey Deluxe
as shown in the movie ‘Eight Legged Freaks’

The itsy bitsy spider
Crawled out of the water spout
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider
Went up the spout again.

hmm, just got my results

Friday, September 19th, 2003

hmm, just got my results back. not too bad.

but i failed gp though.

there are two unexpected results, namely gp and physics. i thought i did quite ok for gp, but in the end i failed. as for physics, i thought i screwed it up, as i said in my blog then. but it turned out better than i thought. the results for the rest are quite expected.

i saw a lot of people being devastated today. it was quite scary. if you’re one of those, just wanna say it’s not the end of the world. yet.

those who read my previous post, i’m so sorry. it was probably a selfish act, and i was affected by it last night. i’ve taken it out. for those who have been hurt by whatever i’ve posted this far since my blog started last year, i’m sorry.

here’s a few links for ya.
Song clip from Billy Gilman’s “Oklahoma”
Song clip from Billy Gilman’s “‘Til I Can Make It On My Own”

distributing songs on the internet is an infringement of copyright laws. i’ve uploaded the clips for the first minute of the songs at a lowered quality. hopefully the copyright guys won’t mind…

and in case you’re wondering too, i’m officially bored.

hmmh, i always make mistakes

Tuesday, September 16th, 2003

hmmh, i always make mistakes whenever i type my blog in a rush, like just now… anyway, i was trying to say that yesterday’s post was inappropriate. i shouldn’t have brought it up again. anymore. it’s probably better of me to keep those things to myself, rather than talking about it in my blog, since doing so is just making the pain even worse. probably keeping it to myself, and probably only to my bestest (sic) friends would be the best solution.

oh, someone wanted to do something bad with my certificate of boredom thing, so i blurred the name. lol…

Just for the records: I got 179/200 for computing coursework…

and here’s computing results for prelims:
a: 6
b: 8
c: 4
d: 5
e: 9
o: 1
f: 0

hmmh… i’ve a bad feeling about this.

did you hear about the rumour about this year’s terrorism?
in 2001, there was the world trade center attacks on 11 september (11/9) to attack the us.
in 2002, there was the bali bomb blast on 12 october (12/10) to attack the australians.
i heard that in 2003, there will be an attack in london on 13 november (13/11) to attack the uk.

no guarantee that this is correct though…
