Chinese New Year
People often say that I am blessed with a good memory. I was talking to a friend I haven’t spoken to for two years, and it was as if I fell into a cryogenic sleep for those two years. I remembered everything I spoke to her two years ago, from her then-crush to her pass phrase that I have to say whenever I send her links–to make sure that it’s really me who speaks on MSN and not some virus bot.
Yet the good memory is like a two-edged sword. On one hand, the obvious advantage is that I can mug just a few days before the exams, and chances are I can remember 75% of what I had studied. On the other hand, it also means that memories don’t fade so easily–whether good or bad.
And so my spring cleaning (actually it was more of tidying up than cleaning up) for Chinese New Year was a slow process. As I picked up an object, I remembered where it was bought. I remembered how I got to own it. I remembered the conversations carried out. I remembered the occasions.
And when I lay down on my bed to rest for the day, questions started to form. There are things that I found totally illogical, and until now I still don’t know why. There are things which I want to find explanations for. There are things that I still want to do, but never had the chance to.
As for the days itself, it was mostly spent playing games or attempting to complete my reports and assignments. The others were spent thinking, wondering, and wasting away.
It didn’t help that most food stalls were closed, and for four days I had my diet of fried chicken either from KFC or the nearby Indian Muslim stall that served ayam penyet.
Here’s wishing a very Happy (belated) Chinese New Year to those who celebrate it.
Wondering,
bcc

how very curious!
not many guys i know have such good memories for details. anyway, i remember a lot of ‘useless’ info too. they seem like the most unimportant sort of details. but anyway, i forget a whole bunch too. so i guess that evens it out.

Daphne Maia: Haha… I guess I forget a lot too. Unfortunately, those that I ultimately forget are usually the more important ones like things I studied in earlier years.
